"I can’t say enough about my wonderful experience and my sensational results (with no side effects!)."
It’s been 10 years since I had proton therapy at Loma Linda University Cancer Center (LLUCC), and my PSA is 0.2. I’m 81 and live in Palm Springs, CA. Each time my wife and I pass Loma Linda on our way to LA, we both say, “Thank you, Loma Linda!”
I was diagnosed late in 2006. After reading and hearing about the undesirable side effects experienced by many patients who chose “traditional” prostate cancer options, I decided to do my homework and see what else was out there that my urologist and other surgeons were not telling me about.
I found proton therapy and LLUCC. Thank you to God and the Internet … and the book written by Robert Marckini. I still keep a picture of my treatment team on my wall. Those guys were terrific! And I felt great throughout the whole ten weeks of treatment.
I started my treatment in January 2007, so my wife and I decided to turn what we called my “medical inconvenience” into a winter “vacation” and rented a home in Palm Springs, a 45-minute drive to Loma Linda. We golfed in the morning and then drove to LLUCC in the afternoon. Everything was smooth and easy.
The number that most people mention when discussing prostate cancer is PSA. Three years before my treatment, my PSA increased from 3 to 4 to 5.6. Eighteen months after treatment, my PSA decreased to 0.2 and remains there today - ten years later. But these are not the only numbers that count. During my LLUCC "medical inconvenience,” my golf handicap improved from a 25 to an 18!!
I can’t say enough about my wonderful experience and my sensational results (with no side effects!). This is a true testimony of how great an option proton therapy is and has been for the thousands of men like me.
