In January of 2013, at the age of 58, I was diagnosed with PCa and from the very beginning knew there had to be alternatives to surgery. I had several friends that immediately chose surgery upon diagnosis and both sadly experienced those dreaded side effects that too often are minimized by the medical world and exploited by the insurance industry with years or decades of medicines, devices, and urinary aides. All the while their manhood as it was known prior to PCa fades away.
I too was given the traditional Gold Standard book by my urologist detailing everything other than proton therap and unwilling to discuss proton as a viable alternative. Having the unfortunate / fortunate prior knowledge because of friends that had chosen surgery, I had already begun my research on proton and the fact that a proton center had been built 10 minutes from home in 2012. I drove straight from my appointment to Barnes & Noble only to learn Bob Marckini's book had to be ordered. I began researching how to get an immediate copy and discovered it was available via Kindle upload to my IPad via Amazon.
That night I read Bob's electronic book version cover to cover and the rest is history. His book became my "Yellow Brick Road " and the "Road Less Traveled."
In 2013 my Initial PCa diagnosis was Stage 1C / PSA 5.3. Fast forward four years and my PSA is .5 and I've had no side effects and all systems are normal!
