This is one patient’s account of his first day of proton treatment ...

Hello, from California - my two-month temporary residence!

I arrived in Colton, California, late Tuesday afternoon, the first of October. After finding my apartment complex, I filled out necessary rental paperwork, and went to my apartment. It’s comfortable, fully-furnished, and less than five miles from Loma Linda Medical Facility, where I receive treatment.

“Loma Linda's goal is "To Make Man Whole" in all respects. I felt emotional peace in their hands and that peace continues!!!”

My name is Jennings Raff; I am 71 years of age and completed my Proton radiation treatments at Loma Linda on October 1, 2002. My Gleason Score was 6, PSA 3.8 and is now .0!

“I started this treatment undecided if it was right, knowing that with His guidance it would be.”

“I would tell every one to make every effort to go Loma Linda if you want the best way to treat your cancer.”

“Many aspects of this whole story have convinced me that there was Divine intervention. No one is this lucky!”

Having recently gotten very positive PSA results, I hereby submit my story. Beginning about 1996 I had a series of elevated (8 to 12) PSA readings. For a few years antibiotics brought these readings down to lower but still high readings. I avoided a biopsy because of a disdain for invasive procedures (fear!). In retrospect, it is clear to me that I was in denial.

“I would encourage you to go to LLUCC and relax. They will tell you to take care of your heart, and they will take care of your prostate.”

I completed my treatments 12/28/01 (40 proton).

I had some pain during treatment that turned out to only be gas. I was advised to get Beano or Gas-X. I did, and that was the end of the problem.

One other issue I had was that I had to get up often at night to go the bathroom. I was given a prescription for FLOMAX. And that was all I needed.

“The big deciding factor for me was a much better quality of life outcome for treatment by Protons at Loma Linda.”
