I recently underwent 40 proton treatments at LLUMC and have only been home now for 20 days. So far I've had zero side effects and highly recommend LLUMC for treatment. My PSA was 7.9 and a Gleason score of 3+3 = 6. I decided on Proton after four separate consultations with other surgeons and radiologists and finally reading an article on LLUMC and proton therapy. After studying the results of all other forms of treatments, I decided why undergo surgery when you can have the same results without the negative side effects. You won't find a more caring and professional facility than LLUMC and I would do it over in a heartbeat.
Update August 2002:
Last month, only three months after completing my last treatment, I had my first PSA test. The results were exactly as Dr. Rossi predicted. Down 25%, from 7.9 to 5.9. This is definitely headed in the right direction.
Last week I just returned from a 3,800 mile cross country trip on my BMW K1200RS motorcycle. My journey took me from Dunnellon, Florida through the Smokey Mountains in North Carolina and continuing on through Colorado and on to Lake Tahoe, CA. It was such an enjoyable experience, I will return to Lake Tahoe next month to make the return trip to Florida. This is just to let you know that I've had no side effects whatsoever, and actually feel better physically and mentally than ever.
